Big Day!

So my oldest son started his first day at work at Hollister today...pretty exciting his first job!!
There he goes...I threatened to call a meeting to make sure everyone would be nice...:) He didn't think that was funny. So after dropping him off at the Mall I went home and worked on step 4 of Bonnie's mystery quilt. I got all set up with my dvd player and a nice glass of wine and I finished the step 4 triangles!

Starlight Circle

Tonight we took our traditional walk through a local neighborhood that goes all out with the lights. They call it Starlight Circle for the Holidays. We usually go with a bunch of people but tonight it was just us, which was actually really nice. I know these times are going to be over before I know it...I can't believe they are all teenagers this year! My oldest will be eighteen in February and graduates in June. I am trying to just enjoy every moment this year! They are doing a little impromptu dance here :)

I buy a special ornament for them each year (so they'll have a good start on tree decorations when they move out) and they opened them before we left for our walk.

I spent the day at 2 different malls and various strip malls but I think I'm done with my shopping...yay! Now I need a whole day to bake and another to sew and I think I'll be ready...whew! But tonight I just want to have a hot shower and climb into bed and read!
Nitey-nite!

Yumminess

So middle son just may be headed for culinary greatness :) He just whipped up a batch of Cinnamon Rolls the likes of which I have never tasted--better than Cinnabon--seriously I'm not even kidding!!! He's making them for a party and all day yesterday I tried to convince him to just make the Pillsbury-bang it on the side of the counter and pop them out- kind, mostly out of laziness cuz I want to work on my quilt:) Anyway he was determined they had to be homemade from scratch, I told him o.k. but this is your project not mine! And ta-da he did it, even chose the recipe on his own.

I think this may be the world's best cookbook it's from Chinaberry.com
And it's the Chinaberry Cookbook, clever. I have loved every recipe I've tried in it. It's worth ordering their catalog if just for the book reviews. It was one of my favorite companies when my kid's were younger. And no I don't own stock in the company or anything lol!

Finished with Step 2!!

So step 2 is done and I'm ready for the next one! I've got to go work on a wall hanging for my Mom and if I make some progress and get my camera battery charged I'll post some pics later!
Oops, I guess I never hit post, I just came back and here it was sitting. So I made good progress on Mom's wall hanging...I'm thinking I may have to do another for my wall. This is a pattern called Will and Chill from McCalls Quick Quilts. It was really easy, but time consuming, if you know what I mean. Lots of little corner square triangles! O.k. I have got to go to bed...I keep saying that and then I think of one more thing to do, but I think this is it and I can go get rested before tomorrow's big clue #3....yipee!

Step 1.5?

So it's not officially step 2 but I'm halfway done, and after sewing strips and cutting half the day I feel like I've completed a step lol! So I'm posting half steps, yes I am! So here are the not quite 100 nine-patches :)

Pay it Forward

"I will send a handmade gift to the first 3 people who leave a comment on my blog requesting to join this PIF exchange. I don’t know what that gift will be yet and you may not receive it tomorrow or next week, but you will receive it within 365 days, that is my promise! The only thing you have to do in return is 'Pay it Forward' by making the same promise on your blog."
So I hope I am doing this right...I found this on http://scrappynhappy.blogspot.com/ and I think it sounds like fun and I am going to copy what she says :) I make the same promise to the first three people who post a similar entry to this one on their own blog and let me know about it:). Please be sure to leave an email addy so I can contact you!(Be sure to put my link info in your post:)

100 rails completed!

Woohoo! I have finished my 100 rail blocks. Yes it is 2:00 a.m. and yes my last 2 strips I had to rip out and do over...I sewed blue to blue...and yes when I thought I was done I counted again and only had 98!!! But I fixed the boo boo's and sewed 2 more blocks and now finally I am done!!!
Now I just have to make myself go to bed and not start my nine-patches till tomorrow!

Mystery Quilt

Well I'm joining in the mystery quilt fun over at quiltville.com
Go on over and check it out--it's not too late. Late last night (more like early this morning), after Sarah and I finished our tree decorating for the evening,

I finally chose my fabric! I started out thinking I would use the same colors as Bonnie (red, blue and neutral) then I changed my mind and went through just about every color combination possible before ending up with
yup the same colors I started with lol. I had planned on doing a pattern called Cheerio out of the book 40 fabulous quick cut quilts with this fabric but as I was desperately digging through boxes thinking "come on already find something!" I kept looking at this tub thinking it could work, so I'm just going for it. I guess I'll just have to do more shopping for Cheerio :) O.k. I'm off to cut and sew and hopefully have my rails ready to post tonight or tomorrow a.m.!

Mother daughter quilt top

My daughter and I made this quilt top together, she has helped me in the past with everything except the sewing. This time I got her on the machine!

More Catching up

I had a fun birthday dinner with good friends at Yonni's in Poway.

If I were a thinking blogger I would have gotten a picture of the amazing dessert before it was devoured by a mob of chocoholics :)

And the World's Worst Blogger Award goes too...

Me! I can't believe I haven't posted here since July!! Bad blogger! Well it was this beach camping trip to San Elijo that got me out of the habit. We go with a group of friends every year.
I'm not sure why these pictures only make me look bad and everyone else looks great...hmmm must be the camera LOL.
My middle son learned to spear fish!! The next day he caught 7, quite the fisherman.
When we got home I went to work on some holiday quilts.
